M y approach to creating artwork is to provide decorative yet functional stoneware. I love altering traditional clay pieces into more unique irregular forms, asking the clay to do something it is not used to doing. Inherently rigid clay transcends into vessels depicting movement and life. Wide rims frame the piece while highlighting my glazes and creative feet add life and presentation to my pieces. The majority of my work is created as sets or groupings of pieces I call families, which is a reflection of the importance I put on family in my personal life also. I love for my artwork to be cherished as decorative, yet functionally enhancing its use by adding that special flare for entertaining and daily use. I began playing in clay in York, Maine in 1985 in an adult education class at the local high school. Through this program I learned to love and explore handbuilding. During my years as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Honduras I experienced, with great respect, the process of digging your own clay, handbuilding functional pieces, burnishing and pitfiring. In Roswell, New Mexico I learned to create wheel thrown functional ware and to begin incorporating these forms with my love for handbuilding. I continued my education in clay at New Mexico State University and have since studied with various potters in both Mew Mexico and Colorado. I live in Colorado with my husband, our daughter, son and various pets. Currently I create both handbuilt and wheel thrown stoneware pottery fired in an electric kiln all of which is food, microwave and dishwasher safe.  Contact Patricia Ludwig: 303 – 859 – 2422
